This PhD project looks at several actors’ ‘violent imaginaries’ of the Malian conflict. How does researcher’s perceived sense of danger during fieldwork influence their epistemologies? How do Jihadist groups navigate existing conflict dynamics to maximize control over southern Mali? What is the basis for policy makers’ understanding of conflict and Jihad? These are the central research questions of the project.
