We are delighted to invite you to an exchange day on Tuesday, October 14th, focused on Critical Pedagogy from Afrocentrist, Decolonial, and Artivist Perspectives.
This event is part of an educational project supported by the Global Minds Fund, and we are honoured to welcome Dr. Lehasa Moloi from the University of South Africa as our special guest.
The day begins with a talk from 9:30 to 11:30, titled: Where we are: institutional memory, epistemic decolonization, and the politics of education.
This talk invites participants into a critical and reflective conversation on the colonial roots and present-day legacies of Belgian institutions and beyond — from museums and universities to public spaces. Centred in lived experience, critical pedagogy, and epistemological critique, Dr. Lehasa Moloi and François Makanga will explore how coloniality continues to shape the spaces we teach and learn in today.
After a lunch break, we continue from 13:30 to 16:30 with an engaging workshop: Moving within and with the body: embodiment as a response to epistemic injustice.
This workshop, guided by artist, embodied researcher, and artivist Massinda Zinga, invites participants to pause and ask: What happens when we bring the body into our research and pedagogical practices? Together, we’ll explore how embodiment connects us with ourselves and the realities we are part of, opening space for new ways of learning and accountability. Through movement and collective reflection, we will engage the body as a site of knowledge, relation, and critical agency.
The full day will take place in the Studieruimte FPPW (Henri Dunantlaan 2, 1st floor, Room 110.063).
